Karns City track wins KSAC, hikes win streak to 72 meets

Freeport's Brittany Showers and Mohawk's Chelsea Brown each pitched a gem in their WPIAL Class AA first-round softball playoff game Monday.

Unfortunately for the Yellowjackets, a three-error third inning led to the only two runs of the game as the Warriors grabbed a 2-0 decision at Seneca Valley High School.

Showers fanned eight batters and didn't allow a walk while allowing a pair of singles. Brown struck out eight, walked one and allowed four singles.

Freeport finished the season at 9-9 overall.

In other games:

• Morgan Robinson struck out 18 batters, throwing a two-hitter in the process to lead the Slippery Rock softball team to an 11-3 victory over Farrell Monday.

The Rockets rapped out 16 hits, including a 4-for-4 day by Erin Ferguson and and a home run and triple by Sam Volponi.

With the win, coupled with a recently awarded forfeit victory, the Rockets ended the season with a 9-9 record.

• Brandy Neff and Amber Neff each homered to power Moniteau's 16-hit attack en route to a 19-2, four-inning triumph over West Forest.

• Shannon Bartley and Karly Kaufman tallied A-C Valley's two hits as the Falcons lost at Clarion, 11-0 in five innings.
