Rockets use 4th-quarter surge to get past Franklin
Slippery Rock put together two scoring drives in the fourth quarter Friday night to post a 23-12 high school football victory at Franklin.
The Rockets (2-2) trailed 12-10 after three quarters before Ayron Gallagher scored on a 5-yard run with 9:20 left in the game. Andrew Novak added a 1-yard TD run with 1:21 remaining.
Jonathan Powell had 16 carries for 100 yards and a touchdown to lead the Slippery Rock attack. Julian Wested threw for 187 yards and a score for Franklin.
Summit Academy 26, Mohawk 22 — The Knights (3-1) surprised previously unbeaten Mohawk on the road.Quarterback LaRon Green scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 16-yard run with 5:43 remaining. Summit Academy survived a late Mohawk threat when a fourth-and-5 pass from the Knights 20-yard line was batted away in the end zone with 1:15 left.Green threw for 239 yards and two touchdowns for Summit Academy.
Grove City 12, Reynolds 6 — Dwayne Martin snapped a 6-6 tie by scoring on a 2-yard run late in the third quarter for the Eagles (3-1). Chris Clark paced Grove City's attack with 19 carries for 147 yards.Corey Brown led Reynolds with 27 carries for 79 yards.
West Shamokin 20, A-CValley 8 — Brad Rembold completed eight of 16 passes for 118 yards in his return as A-CValley's quarterback. Mike Himes scored the Falcons' lone touchdown on a 68-yard run, with Rembold adding a two-point conversion run.Cale Gibson rushed for 93 yards for West Shamokin and scored on runs of 1, 3 and 5 yards.
