Grove City's Derek Forese and Slippery Rock's Jenna Rinker advanced to the PIAA boys and girls individual golf championships, respectively, after their performance at the Western Regionals Monday at Tom's Run Golf Course.

Rinker shot an 83 and was in a four-way tie for ninth place.

Since only 11 golfers advance to the state finals, a sudden-death playoff was held and Rinker was one of the three golfers who emerged.

Rinker, a junior, is the only girl from District 10 to make the state finals this year and becomes the first female from Slippery Rock High to qualify for the event.

Forese shot a 77 and finished 17th, as the top 22 golfers move on.

The state finals will be held Monday and Tuesday at Heritage Hills Golf Resort in York.
