A transformation will occur at Lernerville Speedway this weekend, when the Sarver track takes on a carnival-like atmosphere.

Lernerville's manager, Gary Risch Jr., has provided the venue for Buffalo Township's Community Day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

"Unity in the Community" is the event's theme and it provides free family entertainment. More than 100 businesses and crafters will be on hand to display their merchandise for the 14 annual festivities.

In racing news:

• Young Danny Holtgraver was involved in an accident last Friday at Lernerville Speedway. Approaching turn three, his Sprint car collided with Joe Butera's Sprint and violently rolled end over end about eight times, eventually landing at the pit fence.

Holtgraver's father Dan reported that his son fractured his anterior neck vertebrae and sustained a bruised lung. He was released from the hospital Sunday morning.

Danny will wear a neck collar for the next two weeks and will be watching from the stands.

• In an attempt to encourage more 358 Modified drivers to join the DIRTcar Modified fields at Lernerville Speedway and Tri-City Speedway, Cory Reed, DIRTcar Northeast director of competition and track sanctioning, announced a weight break for competitors.

"The 358 Modifieds have always been able to enter the Big Block Modified fields at Lernerville and Tri-City, but, with less horsepower, they have had very little possibility to actually be competitive. The weight break of 100 pounds should give them a more level playing field," said Reed.

• Although most NASCAR tracks have impressive crowds, gas prices have fans rethinking traveling long distances. Reportedly, advanced ticket sales have decreased somewhat.

Following the lead of some baseball parks, Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte, N.C., is offering an $89 all-you-can-eat ticket to keep the fans coming. The section will have unlimited hamburgers, hotdogs and snacks.

• Vicki Emig of Mercer Raceway Park is promoting free admission this Saturday for Crawford County residents.

• Celebrating his awesome run and excellent ninth-place finish at Darlington International Raceway last week, Sharon Speedway owner Dave Blaney announced that grandstand admission will be reduced to $9 for Saturday's racing action at Sharon.

• Pennsylvania Motor Speedway will host two shows this weekend. Saturday is a regular show while the UFO Late Models will blast off Sunday with a 30-lap feature paying $3,500 to win. Both nights will start at 7 p.m.

• Tri-City is having military night Sunday. Any adult with a valid military identification card receives free grandstand admission.

• At PA Motor Speedway, Saturday, Dave Wade scored in the Late Models, Mike Pegher Jr won his first in the Crate Late Models and Sarver's Bryant Hank's second was a career best.

• At Mercer, Scott Bonnell put an end to his slow start in 2008 by leading wire-to-wire in the non-stop 20-lap Sprint Car feature for his first win of the season.

• Betty Risch, former owner of Risch's Supermarket, died this week at Concordia. Our sincere condolences are extended to the Risch Family.
