The Slippery Rock girls cross country team grabbed five of the top seven places to beat Hickory 23-36 and to capture the District 10 Region 2 championship Tuesday.

Jess Bennett's runner-up finish with a time of 22 minutes, 8 seconds helped to pave the way for the Rockets (6-0).

In the boys meet, Owen Bowser won with a time of 18:20 as Slippery Rock also prevailed 17-45 over the Hornets to finish the regular season at 5-1.

The teams will compete Saturday at the Region 2 Invitational at Commodore Perry.
