Chelsea Martin struck out eight batters, walked two and scattered three hits to lead the Knoch softball team to a 5-3 victory over Freeport in the season-opening contest for both teams Monday.

Freeport's Madison Rotto fanned 12 batters and allowed just one hit, a two-run inside-the-park home run to Amanda Sheppeck in the seventh inning, but surrendered nine walks.

Rotto did have two of Freeport's hits, a double and triple.
