Zach Wheeler struck out 10 batters and also belted a home run, single and drove in four runs as Moniteau defeated Cranberry 12-6 in a District 9 Class AA baseball semifinal game.

"Zach Wheeler had an exceptional game," said Warriors coach Ross Martin.

Wheeler allowed just two hits to the Berries, but walked six over 6Z\c innings.

"We went going in as the No. 4 seed and Cranberry was No. 1 seed," said Martin. "We looked at last week as an opportunity when we lost to them but it was close.

"It was a sloppy game. There were a lot of errors, but it was a big win for Moniteau," Martin added.

Moniteau led 5-4 before erupting for six runs in the sixth inning to take control.

With the win, Moniteau will play Redbank Valley for the District 9 Class AA championship on Tuesday at a site and time to be determined.
