HIGH SCHOOL GOLF

Gus McDowell and Brian Giesler each shot a 75 to lead the Slippery Rock boys golf team to a first-place finish at the Mercer County Tee-Off Tournament at Pine Grove Golf Course Thursday.

Each of the nine teams featured four golfers, with Slippery Rock totaling 315 strokes in the 18-hole event.

Erie McDowell had the event's top individual performance after defeating Giesler and Mercer's Nick Guiler in a playoff.

Alex Miklos' 80 led Grove City to a fourth-place finish.

Freeport 223, Penn Hills 228 — Pat D'Amico's 41 led the Yellowjackets to this win at Buffalo Golf Course.
