Grove City CC wins district
It was an incredible outing for the Grove City High boys cross country team.
At the District 10 Class AAA championships on Saturday, the Eagles took the top two places in winning the team title at Sharon's Buhl Park.
Senior Jacob Kildoo won his third straight district title with a time of 15 minutes, 47 seconds while teammate Dan Jaskowak came in second at 16:21.
Eighty-four runners finished the event.
"Jacob is a special kid," said Eagles' coach Mike Sample of Kildoo. "In a lot of races, he's all by himself by the second mile. He's had to learn to push himself."
The rest of Grove City's scoring team included Jordan Powell (8th), Caleb Thrasher (12th) and Ben Hoffman (15th).
The Eagles totaled 38 points, with Cathedral Prep their nearest foe at 49.
It was Grove City's second team title in the last three seasons.
"The whole team feeds off each other," said Sample. "Sometimes, our practices are harder than the meets because our guys push each other."
Slippery Rock's boys placed sixth and were led by Ryan Thompson's 10th-place finish of 17:09.
In Girls Class AA action, Grove City ended in eighth place, paced by Sara Chuzie (31st-21:00).
Slippery Rock junior Jessica Bennett placed 11th overall (20:14) as the Rockets finished 22nd as a team.
Mercyhurst Prep won the Girls Class AA title with 138 points.
