City buses resume routes
While the county’s transit authority will continue with most changes made in response to the coronavirus outbreak, the city’s buses will resume regular bus service in the City of Butler and Butler Township.
In March, Butler Transit Authority announced a number of changes to the commuting service, including suspending all bus fares. Most changes will stay in effect until at least June, but the board unanimously voted Tuesday to return its Monday through Saturday service to its normal schedule for the city and township routes.
Previously, authority officials adjusted the Monday through Saturday service to use just Saturday’s route schedule, which has a lesser number of routes. The schedule also did not have Route 5, which includes the Butler VA Health Care System, Butler Commons and Butler Crossings.
In its first teleconference since the pandemic’s outbreak, the members voted to resume the authority’s regular local service routes starting Friday.
The board also addressed several developments, including a lack of hand sanitizer.
The authority is also seeking $143,000 in reimbursements from the state in projected loss of revenue from fares as a result of the decrease in ridership from the coronavirus.
Run times are listed on the authority’s website, butlertransit.com, under the “Coronavirus Service Changes” tab.
The board discussed possibly bringing service back for the county in June if the virus recedes but will await state government guidance.
The board will hold its next meeting on May 19.
