Moniteau rally nets win

Armagost throws for 370 in 43-21 road triumph

Moniteau quarterback Kyle Armagost was playing on one good leg.

He had one good arm, too.

Armagost's arm was more than enough to compensate for a bulky right knee as the senior completed 16-of-24 passes for 370 yards and three touchdowns on Friday to lead the Warriors to a come-from-behind 43-21 win over Brookville.

Armagost sprained his knee late in the win against Clarion last week and was questionable leading up to the game at Brookville.

Armagost, though, was virtually untouched in the pocket.

“Our offensive line did a great job run blocking and pass blocking,” said Moniteau coach Jeff Campbell.

Campbell and his coaching staff instructed the linemen to hold if they were beaten or if a Brookville defender got too close to Armagost.

“They protected their quarterback,” Campbell said. “We had a few holding penalties, but that was OK.

“Hopefully, this helps him in the future,” Campbell said of Armagost's poise in the pocket. In the past, Armagost has almost been more dangerous as a runner than a passer at quarterback.

Moniteau fell behind 21-14 at halftime, but made key defensive adjustments in the second half.

The Warriors took control of the game with a 22-point third quarter, keyed by a pair of touchdown passes from Armagost to Ethan Pry and Brayden McCorry.

“It's all about adjustments,” Campbell said. “I think probably the trouble we caused was because we were unpredictable.”

Pry caught eight passes for 217 yards and a touchdown. McCorry had three receptions for 76 yards and a pair of scores.

Dustin Geagan, who also saw some time at quarterback, rushed for 103 yards on 18 carries.

Redbank Valley 44, A-C Valley 14 — The Falcons (0-3) led 8-7 after the first quarter, but faded in this KSAC loss.Colton Cunningham scored on a 1-yard run and then hit Jeff Eaton with a pass on the two-point conversion attempt to cap a 10-play, 60-yard drive to start the game.“We played really well early,” said A-C Valley coach Chris McNany. “We came out with a lot of fire and passion. We just couldn't sustain it.”Cunningham, who completed 9-of-22 passes for 70 yards, found Austin Morgan for a 53-yard score in the fourth quarter for A-C Valley.Morgan caught four passes for 62 yards.Cody Rose led A-C Valley with 58 yards rushing on 11 attempts.

Tanner Klein's two extra points were the difference in a 14-12 halftime score.Smith threw for 114 yards and Davis added 75 yards on the ground for Union (1-2, 0-2). Clarion (2-1, 2-0) rushed for 295 yards on 54 carries.
