DeCola 4th at PIAAs

Marissa DeCola has some work to do.

The Butler senior golfer shook off a poor start to shoot an 80 on Monday in the first round of the 2011 PIAA Girls Golf Championships at Heritage Hills Golf Resort in York.

DeCola shot a 42 on the front nine, but rallied with a 38 on the back to head into the clubhouse tied for fourth and six strokes off the lead.

Erica Herr of Council Rock North leads after the first round with a 74.

The tournament concludes today.

Boys SoccerSlippery Rock 3, Hickory 2 (2OT) — Braden Sloan scored the game-winner with 2:04 remaining in the second overtime.Sloan also scored a goal earlier in the game.Mike Stutz had a goal for the Rockets (14-3, 8-1), as well.Joe Gioia stopped 10 shots in goal for Slippery Rock, which hosts Sharon Wednesday afternoon.

Boys LacrosseSeneca Valley Black went 5-0, including a 7-5 win over Butler in the championship game, to win the 2011 Pumpkin Classic at Seneca Valley over the weekend.There were 21 teams in the event.Butler went 4-1, including victories over Peters Township, North Allegheny, Seneca Valley Blue and Greensburg.
