Moran's goal lifts Butler over North Hills

Doug Moran scored Butler's lone goal, but it was enough to defeat North Hills 1-0 in boys soccer action Tuesday.

Evan Gould recorded the shutout in goal for the Golden Tornado (2-4), who host Montour Thursday.

Knoch 3, Valley 0 -

D.J. Thomas scored two goals and James Morrow netted the other as the Knights blanked the Vikings in a section game.

Scott Wetzel added an assist and Steve Frye and Nathan Geibel combined for the shutout in net.

Knoch (2-1, 2-0) hosts Deer Lakes Thursday.

Slippery Rock 7, Conneaut Valley 0

- Drew Craig scored three goals and Ryan Zarichnak added two more for the Rockets.

Kyle Gerken and Euna Jeon also scored goals and Greg Walter earned the shutout in goal for Slippery Rock (4-0).

Ashley Huey had nine kills and 12 digs and Amy Achesinski added six kills and two blocks as the Butler volleyball team stayed hot with a 25-23, 25-15, 25-16 section win over North Hills Tuesday night.Kayla Schnur added 19 assists and three aces for the Golden Tornado (4-1).Knoch 3, Northgate 0- Kariane Stuebgen tallied seven kills and eight service points to help Knoch to a 25-16, 25-9, 25-23 win over Northgate.Ashley Thrower added seven service points and Jen Robinson totaled seven kills for the Knights (2-1).Clarion-Limestone 3, Moniteau 0 -Melissa Ciocetto had four kills, but the Warriors (0-2) fell to Clarion-Limestone in straight sets 25-15, 25-15, 25-23.Redbank Valley 3, Karns City 0 -Christy Wallace had six serves for the Gremlins (0-2) in an 18-25, 8-25, 18-25 loss and Jen Morrow was the team's best all-around player, coach Marcy Isacco said.Karns City's junior varsity dropped a 10-25, 19-25 decision.The Gremlins play at North Clarion Thursday.
