CENTER TWP— Center Township NexTier Bank defeated Meridian Shelor Dance, 16-1, in the Butler County 10-under girls slow-pitch softball championship game recently.
Sarah Bartley, Katlyn Blackwell, Reanna Everton and Kaylee Noah each had three hits in the win. Blackwell hit her first home run.
Amber Burk, Ashley Burk, Hope Schnell and Morgan Richards had two hits each, and Danielle DePolo scored three runs. Michelle Bartley was manager of the team, assisted by Mike Metrick, Stacey Burk and Mike Schnell.
ROANOKE, W.Va. — John Aubrey Sr. of Butler shot a 2-under-par 142 to win the senior portion of the 36-hole Stonewall Resort Classic Tuesday.Aubrey also scored a hole-in-one on the 159-yard No. 10 hole, using an 8-iron. His 142 was third overall in the tournament, trailing Barry Evans' 138 and Jason Martin's 141.
ST. MARYS — East Butler, the Butler County American Legion regular-season and playoff champion, will open the Region 8 baseball playoffs at 4 p.m. Saturday against either the Crawford or Venango county winner at the St. Marys Baseball Complex.There will be eight teams in the double-elimination tournament, which also includes teams from St. Marys, Warren, Elk, Clarion, Erie and either Lawrence or Mercer counties.
EAST BUTLER — East Butler's 9- and 10-year-old baseball all-stars defeated Clarion, 11-6, in the District 25 championship game recently.Brandon Wright had two hits and four RBIwhile winning pitcher Nathan Kibbie struck out four and walked one in 3X\c innings. Dallas Hays had three hits and scored three runs.Other team members include David Matson, Hunter Schaffner, Hugh O'Neill, Rhett Wahler, Jake Hilliard, Hunter Scott, Lake Sankey and Alex Harrison. Rod Hays is the manager while Shane Ozella is his coach.
NATRONA HEIGHTS — The Mars under-10 girls fast-pitch all-stars defeated Scott Township, 4-1, in the finals of the Natrona Heights Tournament recently.Blake Kitt and Niki Schlegel combined for the win on the mound. Other players include Baily Campbell, Serena Morreale, Shannon Doyle, Jayme Hibbard, Maureen Hutchenson, Suzanne Papik and Olivia Henry.Mars defeated Hampton in extra innings of their semifinal game.
