Freeport girls reach WPIAL playoffs
Jessica McFadden dropped in 16 points — including four 3-pointers — and Jessica Aulicino added 15 points and 10 rebounds as Freeport downed Elderton 51-40 in a key Section 1-AA girls basketball contest Thursday.
The win allowed the Yellowjackets (10-11, 7-7) to qualify for the WPIAL playoffs, knocking Elderton (11-10, 7-7) out of the fourth and final playoff berth.
Lynsey Gugino chipped in 10 points for Freeport, which defeated Elderton twice this season.

Butler's boys and girls teams clinched section titles in the North Division of the WPIBL with 7-0 wins over Karns City Wednesday at Bruin Lanes.Autumn Hepler rolled a 600 series, Brea Suchonic a 550 and Nicole Balk a 545 to lead the Golden Tornado girls. Nikki Ferris and Kristen Hepler paced Karns City.Jacob Cookson paced the Butler boys with a 609 series, followed by Cody Rosenbauer with a 590 and Garrett Sexton a 581. The boys rolled a 1,027 (205 average) in the final game.
