SR quartet breaks school record
The Slippery Rock boys' 4x800 relay squad's effort at the Hermitage Invitational Saturday was, well, record-breaking.
The quartet of Ryan Thompson, Braden Sloan, Ty Udy and Brock Sloan placed first in the event with a time of eight minutes, 9.35 seconds.
The performance broke a school record that had stood for 31 years. The prior standard was 8:10.9 set in 1981.
“We felt this team had a good chance to break the record this year,” said Slippery Rock coach Tony Consbruck. “We were going for the meet record (8:08). If it had been a nice day, we would have been around eight minutes flat.”
The same four teammates captured second place in the 4x400 relay (3:29.43) as the Rocket boys placed fourth overall out of 41 teams.
Slippery Rock's girls placed fifth. Freshman Megan Stephenson finished fifth in the 100 dash and eighth in the 200.
Following are the Slippery Rock athletes who medaled at the Hermitage Invite by placing in the top eight.
