JACKSON TWP — Seneca Valley welcomed Pine-Richland to Quad A softball on Tuesday, but the Raiders were not the most generous of hosts.

Seneca Valley recorded hits from seven different players, including a pair of RBI singles by Nicole Lollo, to down the Rams 6-1 in the section opener for both teams.

"We've been hitting the ball well," said Seneca Valley coach George Trew, whose Raiders had 11 hits in an 11-1 win over Canon-McMillan Monday to give them 20 hits in two games.

"When you're talking about averaging 10 hits a game, I'll take that," Trew added.

That proved to be bad news for the Rams, who were bumped up from Class AAA this year. Coach Jeff Seybert certainly knows there's not a lot of margin for error.

"We couldn't get the bunts down and couldn't get the ball into the gaps," said Seybert. "We had a couple of good chances.

"When you move up to Quad A, it's a new story," he added. "Every bunt counts, every sacrifice counts, every pitch counts. ... We're still a relatively young team. We have six ninth graders or sophomores out there," Seybert added.

The Raiders manufactured a run in the first inning, when, with two outs, Jackie Mangola drew a walk off sophomore pitcher Brittany Dovey.

Courtney Grootegoed followed with a single to move Mangola to third, then advanced to second base herself on a throwing error.

A wild pitch by Dovey plated the game's first run.

The Rams had a chance to tie the game in the third inning when Emma Kohley opened the frame with a double, but Raiders pitcher Lauren Pennell fanned the next three hitters to end the threat.

The Rams had runners at first and second and two out in the fourth inning, but Pennell induced Erin Straw to ground out.

The Raiders increased their lead to 3-0 in the fourth when, with a runner at third and two outs, Lollo hit a line drive that deflected off Dovey's glove for an RBI single, then Pennell followed with a run-scoring double.

The Rams got one run back in the fifth when Dovey lined a two-out, run-scoring single to right field.

But the Raiders squelched any chance of a Rams comeback when they tacked on three runs in the fifth inning — highlighted by consecutive two-out RBI singles by Megan McCormick and Lollo.

Grootegoed pitched the final two innings for the Raiders, allowing a pair of one-out walks in the sixth inning, but was able to avoid any further damage.

The Raiders will travel to North Allegheny on Thursday and Trew hopes the hitting can continue.

"We're hitting 1 through 9, and as long as we do that, teams can't relax on us, and that's a good thing."
