Here are some numbers supporting the WPIAL(Southwest District) and its bid to get a fourth qualifier into the PIAA Wrestling Tournament:

• The Southeast District's fourth-place qualifiers were 0-14 in the first round of this year's state tournament and 2-12 in the first round of consolations.

• The Southeast District's third-place state qualifiers posted a combined won-loss record of 7-29 at the state tournament. Southwest District third-place qualifiers were 29-26.

• Third-place qualifiers from the Southwest District earned seven medals at the state tournament. Third-place qualifiers from the Southeast won one medal.

• Of the 56 Southeast District state qualifiers, 12 earned medals. Of the 42 Southwest District state qualifiers, 34 won medals.
