Mike Crawford (125 pounds) and Al Evanoff (152, 160) both won all four of their matches as the Butler varsity wrestling team won the Fort Cherry Duals on Saturday with a record of 4-0.

The Golden Tornado defeated three Class AA schools ranked in the WPIAL's top 15, including Fort Cherry (50-21), South Allegheny (47-9) and West Greene (35-32) before beating Bethel Park (ranked eighth in Class AAA) in the title match, 28-27.

"The 28 points is the lowest we have ever scored to win a match," said Tornado coach Scott Stoner. "There were just two pins the entire match, one for us and one for them. The score kept creeping up by three points."

Damon Redenbach, Cole Baxter, Jon Sanko and Chris White all went 3-1 in the tournament and Aaron Raible went 2-1 for Butler.

Eric Tuck, Ken Rosenbauer and Derek Hays were a respectable 2-2.

Stoner was pleased with the performance of sophomore Alex Miranda.

"He weighs just 190 pounds, but due to some injuries, we had to throw him into a match against a 285-pound kid from West Greene," Stoner said.

"Alex lost, but only by a 5-3 score, so we only lost three points."

And in the title match, Miranda faced off against a Bethel Park wrestler ranked in the top 10 in the WPIAL and again gave up just three points.

"You look at it and the kid lost two matches, but I think it was really an accomplishment," said Stoner. "He woke up on Saturday not knowing he was going to get thrown in there."

The Golden Tornado will take its perfect 14-0 record to rival North Allegheny Wednesday night.

Boys Basketball

Sean Carnahan scored 16 points to lead Freeport to a 52-44 victory over Frew Mill on Saturday.

The Yellowjackets (5-7) overcame a 30-22 deficit at halftime.
