JACKSON TWP — Butler hit the ball all day — and Seneca Valley caught it.

Golden Tornado batters struck out only twice Tuesday afternoon, but they never got a runner to second base as the undefeated Raiders posted a 3-0 girls softball victory.

Seneca Valley's Lauren Pennell pitched a two-hitter and allowed only four baserunners.

"That's what she does: throw strikes,"Raiders coach George Trew said. "Lauren doesn't get herself in trouble and we have a very good defensive team."

Neither team committed an error despite not playing a game since last week.

"This wasn't bad, considering it's the first time we've been on dirt for a week,"Butler coach Lindsay Millea said.

Pennell (7-0) issued a two-out walk to Butler's Jenna Geibel in the first inning. Jessica McWilliams led off the Tornado fourth with an infield single, but was erased on a double play.

Trisha Hollerman led off Butler's fifth with a single to left, but was caught stealing. Karen Cumberledge was hit by a pitch with one out in the sixth and was forced out at second base.

"We held our own today against the best team in the section,"Millea said. "Our girls hit the ball solidly, and that's what I wanted to see.

"We hit the ball at people and they made the plays. Eventually, if we keep making contact, balls will fall in."

Seneca Valley tallied nine hits, including five doubles, in scoring its three runs.

Jackie Mangola singled to left with two outs in the first inning and came around to score on Courtney Grootegoed's double to right.

Dana Hughes singled and stole second to begin the third inning, scoring on Mangola's single to center. With two outs in the fourth, Lindsay Troyer and Ashley Watkins produced back-to-back doubles for the Raiders.

Troyer and Watkins are Seneca Valley's No.'s 8 and 9 hitters.

"Our lineup produces from top to bottom," Trew said. "Ashley's hitting nearly .400 now. I've got seven .300 hitters and three .400 hitters in my lineup."

The Raiders entered the game with a team batting average of .370. Only one team — North Hills — has scored more than three runs in a game against them.

Butler did force Seneca Valley to strand five runners in scoring position. Both teams turned a double play in the contest.

"This is something we can build on,"Millea said. "We're hoping to at least split with all of the teams in our section. That's our goal."
