HERSHEY — Grove City's Caleb Kolb was able to shrug off a little disappointment on Friday — and in doing so has guaranteed himself a PIAA Class AA Wrestling Championship medal.

Kolb, the son of former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive lineman Jon Kolb, opened the second day of the tournament at the Giant Center Friday morning by dropping a 3-1 decision to Berwick's Nick Venditti in the quarterfinal round of the 160-pound division.

Kolb, however, rebounded quickly with a 5-2 victory over Canton's Nick Ross in the second part of the morning session.

Coming back in the early evening, Kolb (38-5) recorded a 14-6 major decision over Mount Union's Dustin Drake in the third-round consolations, then followed up with a 6-4 decision over Athens' Garrett Morgan in the fourth-round consolations.

Kolb will face Beth-Center's Aaron Hrutkay (31-8) in Saturday's third-place consolation final. Hrutkay was the third-place finisher out of the Southwest Regional.

Redbank Valley's Johnathan Brothers and Venditti, the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds, respectively, will meet in the championship final.

Brothers defeated Kolb 3-1 in overtime in last weekend's Class AA Northwest Regional in Sharon.

Kolb opened the state tournament by defeating Upper Dauphin's Jason Lesher 7-5 in Thursday's preliminary round.

The Eagles' Nick Miller (170) dropped a 7-3 decision to Bermudian Springs' Tyler Stambaugh 7-3 in Friday's first-round consolations and was eliminated.

Miller (30-14) lost a 7-5 overtime decision to Hughesville's Ammon Swisher in his preliminary round Thursday.
