Volleyball club team gets gold
PITTSBURGH — The championship Pittsburgh Volleyball Club 16 team has a definite Butler County flavor to it.
The squad won the 16-year-old division of the 2016 OVR Holiday Volleyball Tournament in Columbus, Ohio, and returns there for another tourney this month.
Included on the roster are Seneca Valley students Coleman McDonough, Luke Trzeciak and Jacob Smeltzer along with Butler students Logan Donnel, Jordan Ray and Luke McEachin.
PVC 16 went 8-0 in the Columbus tournament and rallied from six points down to win the championship match.
The team also placed second in a January tournament at Hiram College. It will compete in a tournament for nationals in Harrisburg later this month.
Coaches of the squad include Tim Buresh, who played on two WPIAL championship teams at North Allegheny and coaches at Hampton, Matt Robertson and Zach Herman.
The Pittsburgh Volleyball Club has sent 25 players to college volleyball programs over the past four years.
