The Freeport softball team can hit.

The Yellowjackets proved that in the first round of the WPIAL Class AA playoffs Tuesday.

Freeport pounded out 16 hits in an 11-6 win over Keystone Oaks at Hampton Community Park.

“We play some high scoring games,” said Freeport coach Sam Ross. “We expect to hit the ball.”

Alyssa Meta collected four of the hits, including a double, drove in three runs and scored three runs for the Yellowjackets.

Meta also picked up the win in the circle for Freeport (15-3).

Keystone Oaks (13-5) actually led 1-0 heading into the third inning before the Yellowjackets scored four runs to take control. Freeport added three runs in the sixth and seventh innings to further its lead.

Freeport will now play Neshannock on a day and at a site and time to be determined in the next round of the playoffs.

Morgan Deal and Kara Kerschbaumer had three hits each for Karns City, but the Gremlins fell behind 11-1 in the first two innings and dropped a 13-9 decision at Clarion.
