Carney, Macey shinein Butler volleyball win

Gabby Carney had eight kills and five blocks and Lauren Maher 10 aces, six kills and two blocks to lead the Butler girls volleyball team to a 11-25, 25-17, 25-13, 25-17 victory over North Hills Thursday.

Mackenzie O'Donnell added three kills and two blocks and Kiana Green three kills and three blocks for Butler (2-1, 1-1), which will compete at the Shaler Tournament Saturday.

Seneca Valley 3, Mars 2 — For the Planets, Jaden Zimmer and Abby Matusik had 13 kills each, Emily King six blocks, Mel Dinderman 21 digs and Katie King 30 assists.

Karns City 3, Venango Catholic 0 — Kristen Smith contributed 14 assists and four kills to lead the Gremlins to a 25-9, 25-16, 25-10 triumph.

Kendyll Smith added nine kills for the Gremlins (1-1), Heather Henry four kills and Leah Bullman 12 service points and two kills.

Knoch 3, Highlands 0 — Taylor Tabacchi had 20 service points as the Knights rolled to a 25-6, 25-7, 25-13 section victory.

Celina Sanks had eight kills and Schaely Renfrew added six kills for Knoch (3-0, 2-0).

A-C Valley 3, West Forest 0 — Alexis Linamen totaled nine service points and five kills as the Falcons (1-0) won by scores of 25-4, 25-5 and 25-18.

Meredith Snyder added seven assists and five kills and Emily Quaill five goals.

The Falcons' junior varsity team also won, 2-0.

Slippery Rock 3, Greenville 0 — Heather Urbaniak had 12 kills and Taylor Stamm 25 assists to power the Rockets to a 29-27, 25-22, 25-12 victory.

The Rockets had also claimed the recent 19-team Slippery Rock Tournament, defeating Knoch in the finals 25-23, 18-25, 15-11.

Slippery Rock defeated A-C Valley and Knoch downed Corry by identical 2-1 scores in the semifinals.

Urbaniak and Laura Hilliard had 46 and 43 kills, respectively, while Stamm had 108 assists and Jordan McCauley 23 kills.

Slippery Rock will play at Hickory Tuesday.
