A-C Valley tops Karns City in KSAC volleyball
Alexis Linamen had 17 service points and six kills and Meredith Snyder 15 points and 10 kills to lead A-C Valley to a 22-25, 25-7, 25-8, 25-16 KSAC volleyball victory over Karns City Monday.
Emily Quaill added 12 points and 17 assists, Jessica Callender 11 points, Abby Wetzel 21 digs and Kelsey Boocks 12 kills and five blocks, all for the Falcons (4-1).
In junior varsity action, the Gremlins prevailed 18-25, 25-17, 26-24.
The A-C Valley junior varsity team had come off capturing the seven-team Redbank Valley Junior Varsity Invitational over the weekend.
It defeated Clarion-Limestone in the semifinals and the host Bulldogs in the finals.
Butler 3, Avonworth 2 — Heather Straynick had 14 kills, six aces and eight digs and Mackenzie O'Donnell 13 kills and nine blocks to power the Tornado to wins of 25-16, 25-12 and 15-8 in the five-game victory.
Kiana Green added seven kills and six blocks for Butler (4-3), which travels to Fox Chapel on Wednesday.
Indiana 3, Knoch 0 — Despite 14 kills from Celina Sanks and nine kills from Mary Zellhart, the Indians prevailed 27-25, 26-24, 25-12.
Knoch (4-2, 3-1) will play at Deer Lakes Wednesday.
Slippery Rock 2, Hickory 0 — Cole McCandless scored both goals for the Rockets (2-3-1, 1-0) in this region opener.
Karns City 12, Forest Area 0 — Breann Wood led this lopsided win with five goals while Emily LoPresti and Megan Hegedus both scored twice.Emily Schumacher, Maggie McKain and Chelsea McCartney each had one goal for KC (6-0). Brett Rinker shot a 4-under-par 66 at Oakview Golf Club Monday, helping Slippery Rock place second to Meadville in the final Region 3 megamatch of the season. Grove City's Ben Lucas carded a 77 as the Eagles finished third.Meadville clinched the region title, followed by Grove City, Slippery Rock, Warren and Oil City.Rinker was named Region 3 Player of the Year after averaging a 73 this season.
