East Butler rally stops CT, 20-14

East Butler rallied from an eight-point halftime deficit to defeat Center Township, 20-14, in Butler Area Midget Football League action Saturday at Memorial Park.

The loss was the first of the season for the Rams (5-1), who still have the No. 1 seed for the league playoffs.

Michael DiMartino scored on a 41-yard run and added the conversion kick to give CT an 8-0 lead in the first quarter. He sprinted 85 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter before East Butler (4-2) answered with a Dallas Hays 2-yard scoring run.

Hays scored on a 42-yard run in the third quarter and East Butler tied the game at 14 on a 10-yard conversion run by Hays. The winning points scored shortly after the Bulldogs recovered a fumble at the CT 13-yard line. Hays dove into the end zone on fourth down from the 1-yard line.

Meridian 42, Butler City 0 — Alec Bayer scored on an 11-yard run and added the conversion kick for the Raiders (3-3). Bayer scored on a 31-yard run later in the first quarter.

Cameron Kovach ran 38 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter with Bayer added the PAT. Kovach added a 21-yard scoring run as Meridian led 28-0 at halftime.

Vince Slomers scored on a 4-yard run with Drew Rouda adding the conversion point in the third period. Jake Slomers concluded the scoring against Butler City (0-6) with a 19-yard run, Vince Slomers converting the PAT.

Saturday's playoff schedule — East Butler vs. Meridian, 5 p.m.; Center Township vs. Butler City, 7 p.m.

Meridian 7, Butler City 0 — Bryden Davenport scored on a 1-yard run and added the PAT.Center Township 14, East Butler 0 — Kyler Callihan and Beau Rusnak scored for CT.
