Union boys grab first win, 57-40

Dylan Shirey's 20 points paced the Union boys basketball team to its first win of the season, a 57-40 triumph over host Clarion.

Aaron Graham and Kaden McGregor both chipped in with 12 points for the Golden Knights (1-3, 1-1).

Knoch's boys broke a team record by rolling a 1,033 in the match's second game in a 7-0 win over Seneca Valley at Family Bowlaway.Joel Zacherl rolled a 225 and Brett Miner a 224 for the Knights (2-0).In the girls' match, Knoch (2-0) cruised to a 7-0 win.Both Knight teams will be back in action Jan. 2 when they host North Allegheny.

The Butler junior varsity wrestling team captured first place at the 20-team Phillips Tournament on Saturday, finishing with 158 points, besting Sharon (138) and Hempfield (134).Damian Wheeler captured first place in the heavyweight division, while Alex White (182) and Cyle Covert (138) placed second. Ben Hassler (145), Josh Boozel (152) and Nate Lewis (182) each placed third.
