Butler bowlers among top 10

Butler’s high school girls and boys bowling teams finished fourth and seventh, respectively, in the 48-team Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Bowling League tournament recently.

Autumn Hepler rolled a 222 game and 572 series, Kelly Bintrim a 202 game and 572 series for the Golden Tornado girls. Megan Paul rolled a 515 series.

On the boys side, Cody Rosenbauer rolled a 208 game and 582 series, Brandt Fleming had a 201 game and 580 series.

Both teams move on to the Western Pa. Regionals March 9 in North Versailles. The top six teams there advance to the state championship in Lancaster March 16.

Butler High also has nine bowlers competing in the Western Pa. Singles Championship March 8. They include Fleming, Jacob Cookson, Garrett Sexton and Matthew Blose for the boys, Hepler, Brea Suchonic, Bintrum, Paul and Makayla White for the girls.

The top 12 advance to the state championship March 15.

HockeyButler 5, Mt. Lebanon 3 — Tanner Gilliland netted two goals to lift the visiting Tornado (9-9) in PIHL Class AAA action at the Mt. Lebanon Recreation Center Friday.Nick Whann, Matt Tomasovic and Jonathan Fair also scored for Butler while Whann and Dalton Scott had two assists each.Butler returns to action Monday at Canon-McMillan.
