Knoch, Moniteau softball rack up wins during trips
Knoch participated in the Uncle Pete Noll Fast-Pitch Softball Classic last weekend in Taylor Mill, Ky., finishing second in the 16-team tournament.
The Knights (4-1) competed against Christian and Catholic schools from Kentucky.
“I feel like we have a good team this year and told our boosters we’d like to travel somewhere,” Knoch coach Tim Knappenberger said. “They did the rest.
“They found us this tournament and we were welcomed down there.”
Knoch scored 55 runs and collected 56 hits in the tourney, defeating Lloyd Memorial 15-6, Bishop Rossart 16-7, Carroll County 9-2 and Conner 13-3 to reach the championship game. Christian Academy defeated the Knights, 5-2.
Junior pitcher-third baseman Codi Reed had nine hits in 15 at-bats for the tournament, including four doubles, a triple, home run, 17 RBIs and eight runs scored.
Junior shortstop Bethany Hay had 8 hits in 16 at-bats, including two doubles, a triple, two homers and nine runs scored.
Other top hitters included junior center fielder-catcher Abbi Smithmyer with six hits, three doubles and 10 runs; senior center fielder-catcher Karsan Simpson with eight hits and nine runs; sophomore pitcher-third baseman Abbie Thrower with seven hits and three doubles, sophomore left fielder Chandler Krelow with six hits and two doubles, senior right fielder Brittany Nulph and second baseman Saerah Steedle with five hits each.
Senior first baseman Jhoey Dewalt, sophomores Hayle Fox and Shelby Bruggeman, freshmen Taylor Lesseski and Jessi Reed also made the trip.
Knoch was scheduled to play Deer Lakes Saturday morning at Pullman Park.

Chloe Eshenbaugh paced the Warriors with a combined five hits, four RBIs and three runs scored during a 7-5 win over St. John’s Villa Academy (N.Y.) on Sunday and an 11-6 victory over St. Joseph Hill Academy (N.Y.) the following day.
Taylor Hasychak earned a pair of wins on the mound with nine strikeouts during consecutive complete-game efforts.
Hasychak also tripled with an RBI in the Sunday win, while Aleisha Fowler singled three times and drove in two runs.
Kayla Campbell had a team-high three RBIs and Emily Hiwiller scored twice during Monday’s victory.
The Warriors closed the tournament with a 14-4 drubbing of Philadelphia’s Baldwin Prep in five innings.
Nicole Auvil struck out five on the mound to pick up the win and helped herself with a single and three RBIs. Alyssa Dailey tripled and had three RBIs. Courtney Sowinski doubled with two RBIs.
Moniteau (3-0) returns to action on Tuesday when the Warriors host A-C Valley.
