Matz flips 1-hitter in SV softball win
Nicki Matz threw a one-hit shutout in Seneca Valley's 9-0 high school softball win over Shaler on Monday.
Matz, a sophomore, struck out nine and walked three in the complete game against the Titans (9-2, 9-1), who currently lead the Section 3-AAAA standings.
Mia Sipple tallied the lone hit for Shaler.
The Raiders (5-5, 4-5) tallied 15 hits, with Alexa Sisko, Jessica Neill and Cassie Bachik each collecting three of them.

North Hills 9, Butler 8 — Mackenzie O'Donnell had a single and a double, but the Golden Tornado watched North Hills rally for four runs in the final two innings.
Kallie Harper doubled home the winning run for North Hills (2-8, 2-7) in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Emily McDonald added a pair of hits and Jennifer Miller and Rhiannon Kosar each had a double for the Golden Tornado (3-7, 2-7).

Seneca Valley's tandem of Jonathan Perkins and Joe Shults reached the semifinals of the WPIAL Section 2-AAA Doubles Tournament.They opened up Monday's play with a 10-1 win over Butler's Devin Fritz and Gavin Shuler and won their second round match 10-3. In the semifinals, they fell 6-1, 6-3 and then faced Hampton's Brad Cisek and Michael Pfefferle-Gillot in the consolation match for the third and final spot in the upcoming WPIAL tournament. The Talbots' duo prevailed 6-3, 6-4.Butler's doubles tandem of A.J. May and Cam Sedwick downed Mike Chutka and Jared Wink of North Hills 10-3 in the first round.The duo, though, fell to No. 1 seeded Caleb Kramer and Brett O'Donnell of Pine-Richland in the quarterfinals, 10-3.
Will King scored six goals, but Mars was edged by Fox Chapel 14-13.Blake Thompson added five goals for the Planets (4-3).
