Butler, Mars felled in track
Brandon Marchese jumped 43 feet, 4 inches in the triple jump for the Mars boys and freshman Eden Fletcher ran a time of 27.6 seconds in the 200-meter dash for the Mars girls at the WPIAL Class AAA semifinals at Hempfield High School Wednesday afternoon.
The Mars boys did not advance to the finals. Neither did the Mars girls.
Scores and results were unavailable, said Mars track and field coach Larry Young.
Butler Class AAA boys semifinal — Butler toppled both Chartiers Valley (119-31) and West Allegheny (91-59), but fell to Mt. Lebanon (98-52), eliminating the Golden Tornado from the team playoffs.
Travis Reed had the top throws in the shot put and the discus and Anthony Yurkovich had the best high jump and long jump in the meet for Butler.
