Slippery Rock sends 3 to PIAA

Slippery Rock High will send three girls to the PIAA Class AA Track and Field Championships, scheduled for Friday and Saturday at Shippensburg University.

Junior Heather Urbaniak won the District 10 title in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.5 seconds Saturday at Harbor Creek High School.

Urbaniak set a personal-best time of 15.47 in the preliminaries before besting the field in the finals.

Emily Campbell will also compete at states after finishing second in the shot put with a throw of 39 feet, 2.5 inches.

Megan Stephenson placed third in the 100 dash at 12.87. Though only the top two finishers are guaranteed a berth to the state meet, Greenville’s Rebekah Petty, who won the event in 12.59, opted to focus her attention next weekend on the pole vault, which she also won Saturday with a height of 12-8. Petty’s decision means Stephenson will run the 100 dash at Shippensburg.
