GC, SV runners shine

Knoch, Freeport share volleyball title

Grove City’s Aaron Benka placed second with a time of 16 minutes, 34 seconds and Ryan Budnik was right behind him, finishing fifth with a time of 16:52 at the Tri-County cross country meet at Cooper’s Lake on a soggy Thursday afternoon.

The Eagles’ top two runners helped Grove City finish sixth in the meet that featured 61 teams.

Mars finished fourth as a team, led by a 26th-place finish by Nathan Mrdjenovich, and Seneca Valley was fifth.

Michael Kolor finished 24th overall for the Raiders.

Seneca Valley’s girls also turned in a solid effort with a second-place finish.

Rachel Hensler was the top finisher for the Raiders in 36th place. Seneca Valley, though, showed off its exceptional balance as it had seven runners in the top 70.

Mars was third, paced by an 11th-place finish by Natalie Petrini.
