Butler wrestlers survive Rams

The Butler wrestling team won its first three matches and survived a late surge from Pine-Richland to earn a 35-32 Class AAA Section 3-A win Wednesday night in Pine Township.

Jeremiah Bortmas (152 pounds), Ryan Hannon (182) and J.D. Bojanac (285) picked up pins for the Golden Tornado (2-1, 2-0).

Bojanac’s pin put Butler ahead 35-20 and sealed the win.

“J.D. Bojanac had a really nice match,” Butler coach Scott Stoner said. “He’s been really improving for us.”

Seneca Valley 50, Mars 18 — The Raiders scored bonus points in eight of their 10 wins to pick up a win in Class AAA Section 3-A play at Mars.

Alex Lynch (106 pounds), Nick Zoria (126), Steve Rudolph (160), Tyler Miller (220), Brady Moore (285) all picked up pins for Seneca Valley (4-3, 1-1).

Alex Grosso (182) picked up the Planets’ only pin, while Jake Snyder (120) and Silas Bender (132) won by decision.

BowlingButler sweeps Karns City — The Golden Tornado bowling teams swept the Gremlins 7-0. Jackson Cookson led Butler boys to a 3,038-1,982 win with a 705 series. Cody Rosenbauer also added a 650 series for Butler (3-0). Grant Curdo led Karns City with a 490 series. The Butler girls were led by MiKayla White, who rolled a 576 series. Kelly Bintrim added a 209 game for the Tornado (3-0). Courtney Sutton led Karns City with a 432 series.HockeyFreeport 6, Bishop McCourt 0 — Cole Hepler recorded a hat trick to help the Yellowjackets beat the Crushers at the Cambria County War Memorial Coliseum.Freeport (2-3-2) dominated the game, out-shooting the Crushers 70-4.
