The Butler wrestling team won its first three matches and survived a late surge from Pine-Richland to earn a 35-32 Class AAA Section 3-A win Wednesday night in Pine Township.

Jeremiah Bortmas (152 pounds), Ryan Hannon (182) and J.D. Bojanac (285) picked up pins for the Golden Tornado (2-1, 2-0).

Bojanac’s pin put Butler ahead 35-20 and sealed the win.

“J.D. Bojanac had a really nice match,” Butler coach Scott Stoner said. “He’s been really improving for us.”

Alex Grosso (182) picked up the Planets’ only pin, while Jake Snyder (120) and Silas Bender (132) won by decision.

BowlingButler sweeps Karns City — The Golden Tornado bowling teams swept the Gremlins 7-0. Jackson Cookson led Butler boys to a 3,038-1,982 win with a 705 series. Cody Rosenbauer also added a 650 series for Butler (3-0). Grant Curdo led Karns City with a 490 series. The Butler girls were led by MiKayla White, who rolled a 576 series.
