Double's effort lifts Butler, 4-2
Troy Double gave the Butler hockey team the lift it needed Tuesday night at Ice Connection.
Double scored the game-winning goal with 1:48 remaining and added an empty-net goal to seal a 4-2 win over Upper St. Clair.
The Panthers led 2-0 after two periods before Tanner Chuba and Jordan Krajnikovich scored to even the game with 2:27 left in the third period.
Matthew Tomasovic assisted Double on the winning goal for the Golden Tornado (9-7)
Logan Rothbauer made 29 saves for Butler.
Seneca Valley 6, Mt. Lebanon 4 — Alexander Crilley contributed four points, including three assists, to help the Raiders (10-8) beat the Blue Devils at the Warrendale BladeRunners.
Parker Faix had a hat trick for Seneca Valley, while Ian Fraer made 24 saves.
Freeport 6, Deer Lakes 4 — Brendon Zack and Stone Haberstroh both scored a pair of goals in the third period to power the Yellowjackets past the Lancers at Ice Connection.
Deer Lakes led 4-2 at the end of the second period. Cole Hepler and Nick Rusak also added goals for Freeport (12-3-2).
Katie Hill made 19 saves for the Yellowjackets.
Boys basketballUnion is in win-or-home mode. BowlingThe Knoch bowling teams swept Seneca Valley.For the boys, Joel Zacherl led the Knights with a high game of 207 and a 570 series. WrestlingThe Butler wrestling team rolled past West Allegheny on the road 54-17.
