Butler baseball wins 1-0 in 9th inning

Todd Erdos feels the Butler baseball team’s confidence should continue to grow.

If Wednesday night’s 1-0 Section 1-AAAA road win over Fox Chapel is any indication, the Golden Tornado showed they can hang tough.

Kyle Campbell drove in the game-winning run in the top of the ninth, hitting a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded.

The Golden Tornado (5-2, 2-0) started the inning with a lead-off walk by Lake Sankey. One batter later, Nick Patten hit his second double of the day to put runners on second and third.

After an intentional walk loaded the bases, Campbell delivered.

Butler starter Wyatt Daughtery held down the Foxes (4-3, 0-2), striking out eight batters in 8 2/3 innings of work.

“I think it was a great team effort,” Erdos said. “We are building confidence and hope to ride that momentum.”
