Wayne Roccia has been coaching the Seneca Valley girls track team since 1980, but he hasn't had many meets like Tuesday's against North Allegheny.

Entering the meet against the Tigers, Roccia had beaten North Allegheny only one time.

But when sophomore DaLynn Mills won the high jump with an effort 5 feet, 6 inches and freshman Jen Boyd finished third, the Raiders knocked off North Allegheny 77-73 for just the second time in that 26-year span.

Mills also won the 100-meter dash in 12.47 seconds and helped the 400-meter relay team finish in first place (51.18).

Kim Chapman also won two events, including a school-record 15.81 in the 100 hurdles, besting Beth Hamilton's standard from 1980. Carrie Wack won the 200 and was part of a pair of winning relays.

"In a meet that close, there are a lot of key performances," said Roccia, whose team last dispatched the Tigers back in the mid-1990s.

"After the 1,600 relay we still had the high jump. It was 71-70 with the high jump left. It was fun because everyone was down there watching."

The Raiders usually run the Tigers early in the season, and, with a loss, usually has the Raiders battling with Butler for the second and final team playoff spot and usually knocks them off for section champion honors.

This win will allow the Raiders a chance at a golden opportunity.

"We'll try and have fun with it," said Roccia. "Hopefully, we can keep ourselves healthy. We're certainly not going to look past anyone else. This is exciting for us."

The Raiders won 11 of the 18 events and added six second-place finishes and 10 third places.

In the boys meet, the Tigers prevailed 110-40.
