Ex-law clerk runs for row office
A former judicial law clerk is running for Butler County Register of Wills/Clerk of Orphans’ Court.
Sarah Fair Edwards, 34, of Butler is seeking the Republican nomination for the dual row office.
Edwards, who was county Judge Michael Yeager’s law clerk for the past five years, said she is qualified for the post due to her understanding of the law and experience working with the row office.
She said she enjoyed working with both estates and orphans’ court.
“I grew to love it,” Edwards said.
She also cited her educational background as another qualification for the job.
Along with a bachelor’s degree in English from Dickinson College in Cumberland County and a master’s degree in health care ethics from Duquesne University, Edwards obtained a Juris Doctor from the Duquesne University School of Law.
She praised retiring Register of Wills/Clerk of Orphans’ Court Judy Moser for her decades of service.
“I think Judy Moser has done an excellent job running that office,” Edwards said. “I hope to continue the excellent work she has done.”
She left her law clerk post at the beginning of the year.
“I left that job to become more politically active and pursue this position in particular,” Edwards said.
She is a 1999 graduate of Butler High School.
While working toward her master’s degree, she was the student health care ethicist at UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Her volunteer experience includes belonging to the Catholic Women and Christian Mothers of Saint Paul Parish and serving as a recruiter for the Dickinson Volunteer Network, interviewing prospective students.
She belonged to American Bar Association’s Law Student Division.
Edwards lives in the city with her husband, Thomas, and her 1-year-old son, Frederick.
