CRANBERRY TWP — PPG Industries will establish a new architectural coatings headquarters that will bring up to 500 jobs to the Cranberry Woods office park off Route 22.

Bryan Iams, vice president of corporate and government affairs, said Monday the initial transition to Butler County is scheduled to take 12 to 18 months. But there’s no deadline to complete the process.

“And as the business continues to grow and assess its resource needs, it will generate additional job opportunities,” Iams said.

The North American Architectural Coatings part of PPG’s business includes well known consumer paint brands such as Gliddon, Olympic and Pittsburgh Paints.

Those people who will relocate to Cranberry are management for the architectural coatings business, administration, finance, customer sales and support. Nothing will be made at that site, and the global headquarters for PPG will remain in Pittsburgh.

All of the jobs that will relocate to Cranberry already exist within the company. However, about 240 of them will be relocated from these communities: Louisville, Ky., Dover, Del., and Strongsville, Ohio.

The 120,000-square-foot headquarters will be in Cranberry Woods’ building four, which was previously occupied by the Westinghouse Electric Co. before its office consolidation in 2012.

Iams said PPG picked the site because it is between the company’s key sites in Ohio and southwestern Pennsylvania, including Gibsonia, Allison Park and Harmer.

At the same time as the Cranberry move, PPG plans to expand its existing technology center in Harmar Township, Allegheny County, which will bring another 60 jobs from out-of-state to the region.

The technology center includes PPG’s glass and fiberglass business and research and development activities.
