EMS worker jailed on charges

Cranberry Township Police arrested an EMS employee Tuesday for allegedly using a mobile phone camera to record a female in the Cranberry Township EMS station restroom.

Matthew Thomas Leonard, 37, of Cranberry Township, was charged with one felony count each of intercept communications and criminal use of a communication facility, and two misdemeanor counts of invasion of privacy. He was placed in the Butler County Prison. No bail had been set as of Tuesday night.

Charges stem from an investigation after a female employee told police she discovered a cell phone in the women's restroom on Jan. 24.

Police Chief Kevin Meyer said Leonard works for the EMS, but is not a township employee.

An affidavit of probable cause filed with the court by Sgt. Matthew Irvin and provided to the Butler Eagle reported officers found a phone partially concealed on the floor behind a trash can with the camera pointed at the toilet.
