Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic’s softball team kept its season alive by defeating Monessen 3-2 in the WPIAL Class A consolation game, played Tuesday afternoon at West Allegheny High School.

The Trojanettes (16-5) trailed 2-0 before plating three runs in the top of the sixth inning.

Senior second baseman Lillia Smyers went 3-for-3 in the victory while pitcher Alayna Derzak worked a complete game.

CWNC will face District 10 champ Saegertown in the first round of the state playoffs Monday at a site and time to be determined.
