Ennis' hitting, pitching carries Eagles past Reynolds

Grove City's Joe Ennis smacked two home runs, singled, drove home five runs and pitched a five-inning complete game in the Eagles' 16-1 baseball victory over Reynolds Monday.

Jesse Alfreno hit a two-run homer, added a pair of singles and four RBI, and Derek Maybee and Mike Best also went deep for Grove City, which rapped out 18 hits.

In other action:

Justin Berry's three-run homer highlighted a four-run first inning as Moniteau held off Clarion 4-3.

Nathan Markle struck out nine and walked one in going the distance for the Warriors.

Josh Cress hurled a five-inning no-hitter and Bill Dillon drove in four runs to give Slippery Rock (5-5) a 10-0 win over Mercer.

Todd Kennedy homered as Knoch routed Serra Catholic 11-1 in five innings.

Butler's doubles tandem of Ike Backstrom and Brad Straub moved on to the section finals with two victories Monday at North Allegheny High School.The duo entered the competition seeded first and received a first-round bye. In the quarterfinals, they defeated Seneca Valley's Pete Czerwinski and Scott Golmic 10-5, before disposing of NA's Lee House and Danny Musa 6-4, 6-2.Backstrom and Straub will compete for the section title today against North Allegheny's Payom Dousti and Perry Evangelista.Seneca Valley's Andy Zipf and Jon Hartzell will battle House and Musa for third place.
