Yellowjackets sting Knoch for overtime victory
Talon Kirkland scored a goal five minutes into overtime to lift the Freeport boys soccer team to a dramatic 1-0 win over section-rival Knoch Thursday night.
It was the first section loss for Knoch (10-1-1, 8-1-1) and drops the Knights into a virtual tie with Mars atop the standings.
Freeport (10-3-1, 6-3-1) climbed back into the race with the victory.
Mars 6, Highlands 1 — Dylan McNany and Ryan McKenzie each scored two goals as the Planets topped the Talbots.Michael Page and Alex Perri also scored for Mars (11-1-2, 8-1-2).
Butler 3, North Allegheny 1 — Jake Gamble scored a pair of goals and Roberto DaSilva added another as the Golden Tornado set themselves up for a section showdown with Seneca Valley next week.With a win over the Raiders next Thursday, Butler (6-1-2) can win the section title.
Slippery Rock 5, Hickory 0 — Mike Ramirez scored three goals and assisted on the others as the Rockets (10-0-1) rolled.
Karns City 7, Keystone 1 — Eric McCue scored three goals and Justin Ryan tacked on two more to lead the Gremlins (10-4, 9-2).
