Workplace diversity topic of BC3 series

Two Butler County Community College professors will discuss diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace at the college’s Lunch & Learn Series presentations in downtown Butler.

Faculty member Tricia Pritchard will speak about the benefits of diverse and inclusive workplaces May 12, and faculty member Ivory Dunlap will discuss recognizing and addressing unconscious bias June 9.

The catered professional skills workshops will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Holly Pointe Building, 220 S. Main St. Natili North will provide lunch May 12, and Upper Crust will provide lunch June 9.

The college’s workforce development division launched its Lunch & Learn Series in October 2018 in partnership with the Butler County Chamber of Commerce to meet an objective in the college’s 2017-22 strategic plan, which is to build relationships to advance economic development and quality of life in the community.

“When workers are feeling comfortable, that they are included, that their diversity is part of an organization, their mind can then be focused on their work and the things they need to produce versus having that as a concern,” said Kelly McKissick, coordinator of professional education and certificate programs in BC3’s Workforce Development division.

“The way society is right now, there are so many things going on,” McKissick said. “It’s driving us to these topics. This is another way that we can respond, by going out and providing workshops with information that affects the community as a whole.”
