12:36 a.m. Monday — Emily N. Sopel, 34, of Center Township was charged with having suspected heroin and other drug contraband after a traffic stop on the 300 block of North Washington Street.
Police said Sopel was a passenger in the vehicle — a U-Haul truck being driven by Heather Ann Kuhrt, 33, of Butler, who was wanted on a bench warrant. Kuhrt was arrested on the warrant that was issued Jan. 24 after she failed to appear for a hearing in a misdemeanor drug case.
When Sopel got out of the truck, according to court documents, an officer noticed that she had been sitting on a stamp bag of suspected heroin. In the passenger side door pocket police said they found at least three more empty stamp bags.
Additionally, she is accused of having a hypodermic needle.
Sopel is charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

3:04 p.m. Jan. 25 — Cars driven by Robert E. Angert, 82, of Karns City and a 17-year-old Chicora boy, who police did not identify, collided at Route 68 and Steighner Alley in Chicora. No one was injured but the boy’s car had to be towed.
Police cited Angert for a stop sign violation.

Monday — A 27-year-old Parker area man reported his Ruger LCP .380-caliber pistol lost or missing. He told police the gun could have been taken between Oct. 1 and Jan. 19 from his vehicle or home on the 1300 block of Doc Walker Road in Perry Township, Clarion County

4:30 p.m. Monday — An unknown “inked up” shoplifter made off with a pair of youth white Adidas sneakers from Famous Footwear at the Hilltop Plaza in East Franklin Township.
The suspect is described as being white, in his early- to mid-20s, about 5 feet, 11 inches tall. He had a tribal tattoo on the right side of his neck, a tear drop tattoo below his left eye and a tattoo on his hand.
Police said the man fled the store in a gray mid-sized Nissan sedan. Anyone with information about the thief is asked to call police at 724-543-2011.
8 p.m. Jan. 25 — A sport utility vehicle driven by Connie J. Vickroy, 63, of Johnstown, Cambria County, struck a deer on Route 28 north just south of Furnace Run Road in South Buffalo Township. She was not hurt but her vehicle had to be towed.
[naviga:h3]State Police, Mercer[/naviga:h3]
6:46 p.m. Tuesday — Jonathan Meilander, 23, of McKeesport, Allegheny County, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of a controlled substance on Interstate 79 in Springfield Township. Police came upon Meilander while assisting him with his broken down vehicle.
He participated in a drug recognition evaluation, according to a police report, but later refused a blood test. Police noted that they also found the defendant with suspected marijuana and other drug paraphernalia. Charges are pending lab results.
