State physician general appointed
Gov. Tom Wolf has appointed Dr. Denise Johnson as physician general.
Johnson will serve as acting physician general until her appointment is approved by the state Senate.
Johnson most recently served as chief medical officer at Meadville Medical Center in Crawford County, and spent 13 years before that in private practice as an obstetrician and gynecologist in Meadville.
She is a Fellow of the American College of Health Care Executives and serves on the Governor’s Commission for Women.
Johnson also is chairwoman of the Meadville Area Free Clinic’s board of directors and a past chairwoman of the state Coalition Against Rape board.
She earned her medical degree at Georgetown University School of Medicine and completed her residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
