Ronald Shanafelt
Ronald Vern Shanafelt, 55, of Rimersburg, died Saturday evening at ACMH Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Born Nov. 26, 1950, in Butler, he was the son of the late James Vern and Helen Ruth Lucas Shanafelt.
He attended Rimersburg United Methodist Church and had attended the Keystone School District, where he was a member of the high school football team.
He enjoyed automobiles and being with his family.
Mr. Shanafelt worked for 22 years as an operator on the Ransom Rapier Dragline for C&K Coal Company in Sligo. He retired in 1995 due to failing health.
He married Nancy M. Rumbarger June 4, 1971, at Callensburg United Methodist Church. The Rev. Frank Tulack officiated.
Along with his wife, he is survived by a son, Michael Vern Shanafelt and his wife, Kari L., of Rimersburg; a daughter, Rebecca Diane Wagner and her husband, Christopher T., of New Castle; and three grandchildren, Caleb M. Shanafelt and Hannah M. Shanafelt, both of Rimersburg, and Dylan T. Wagner of New Castle.
Also surviving are six sisters, Barbara A. Brothers and her husband Samuel of Petrolia, Wanda Darlene Rodgers and her husband Clyde of Butler; Sandra L. Beichner and her husband Ben of Shippenville, Patricia F. Allmendinger and her husband, Jack, of Knox, Pamela G. Shively and her husband Jeff of Karns City and Robin D. Ivol and her husband Don of Bethel Park; three brothers, Roger C. Shanafelt and his wife Cindy of Chester, Vt., Dallas D. Shanafelt and his wife Sue of Callensburg and Arthur H. Shanafelt and his wife Kathy of Emlenton; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Shanafelt was preceded in death by his father on Jan. 29, 1973; his mother on Nov. 22, 1987; two sisters, Linda Williams in 1999 and Mary Jane Shanafelt in 1952; and a brother, Larry Shanafelt on Sept. 27, 1988.
<B>SHANAFELT</B> — Friends of Ronald Vern Shanafelt, who died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at <B>RICHARD D. HILLIS FUNERAL HOME</B>, 758 Main St., Rimersburg. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, officiated by the Rev. Brock R. Beveridge of Rimersburg United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Worthington Lutheran Cemetery.
