Adams planners OK two and table two plans

ADAMS TWP — The planning commission tabled two plans and approved two others at Wednesday night's meeting.

The board unanimously voted to table the Harlan Simons Industrial/Residential plan along Dobson Road. An extension for the plan, which proposes six buildings and three homes, is in place until Dec. 31.

The commission also voted to table approval of plans for Discovery Christian Church, which hopes to convert the former building of The Lightning Bug along Scharberry Lane into a church and community center.

“The civil engineers are backed up at this point,” said Todd Ransom, community pastor. “We're in the process of making sure those drawings are ready to go.”

Ransom agreed with the commission to approve an extension until Jan. 31.

Final approval of the Meadow Point PRD was granted with little discussion. The 52-acre location along Dobson Road proposes 38 single-family dwellings.

Township engineer Ron Olsen recognized that issues discussed at last month's meeting regarding the PRD were fully addressed.

The township also approved a minor lot-line revision for the Heil property at the intersection of Myoma and Callery roads.

Commission Chairman Martin McKinney announced Wednesday night that the township is taking steps to protect natural foliage used as buffer zones by developers.Developers who plan to grade into buffer zones during construction and replanting them later need to notify the township of doing so ahead of time.“We're trying to be kind to the environment. We're trying to be kind to the neighbors,” McKinney said. “We're just trying to make sure everybody's on the same page.”McKinney also announced the township will join other municipalities to analyze ways stormwater can be managed at the local level. The township is going to begin asking developers to participate in pre-construction meetings with staff.Township manager Gary Peaco said this will open better communication channels during the development process.
