Firefighters douse fire in house in Forward Twp

FORWARD TWP — Firefighters suspect a fireplace is the culprit of a Wednesday afternoon fire at the house at 502 Watters Station Road.

Brian Greenawalt, an Evans City Volunteer Fire Department assistant chief, said the owner of the two-story home had a fire in his fireplace about 3:30 p.m. when flames got inside a wall and climbed to the second floor, which was when firefighters entered the home and extinguished the fire.

Greenawalt, who did not give the name of the homeowner, said no one was injured.

He said in addition to Evans City, Callery, Penn Township and Butler Township firefighters responded to the call.

Crews were on the scene for nearly three hours, Greenawalt said.

He did not have a damage estimate, but said the home was not a total loss.

“I would say it’s not livable at this point. However, I would say it’s repairable,” Greenawalt said.
