67 companies seek applicants for jobs
WARRENDALE — The Pittsburgh North Regional Career Fair held Wednesday helped link prospective employees with companies seeking to add to the area's work force.
“It's (career fair) all about opportunity and possibility, and that is what the chamber is all about,” said Rebecca Martin, president and CEO of THE CHAMBER of Commerce. “It's about matching the right people to the right jobs.”
The second annual career fair at the Four Points Sheraton Pittsburgh North was sponsored by THE CHAMBER and CareerLink of Butler County.
There were 67 companies looking for applicants for a broad range of jobs.
Stacy Fetterman and Stephanie Sarver from U.S. Liner were there to promote openings in the company's purchasing department.
“We're looking to staff new positions,” said Fetterman, whose company that produces thermoplastic products is in Cranberry Township and employs about 200 people. It also has facilities in Harmony and Zelienople.
“People have been starting to come over to our table and inquire about openings,” she said.
Debbie Walker and Morgan Jones of Alcoa, who work in the human resources department in the Cranberry facility, said the company is looking for electrical engineers locally, but the company has openings over all of its various facilities.
“We've received about 50 resumes in the first two hours here,” said Jones.
Meredith Cochran with Insight Pipe Contracting was looking for people in a growing industry as the company provides piping for Marcellus Shale natural gas companies and for municipal sewer lines and other piping work. The company is in Lancaster Township.
“We're getting some inquiries from well-qualified individuals,” said Cochran. “We've gotten some great resumes and have talked to people that hopefully may become part of our team.”
There was a wide variety of people looking for employment, from those just graduating from college to those looking to transition from former positions to those looking for higher pay.
Ariel McCracken of Cranberry was checking out the companies that might appeal to her as she is just entering the work force.
“I just graduated from Edinboro University and now am on a job search. I'm looking for something in the communications or marketing field,” she said.
“I've handed out a few resumes, and some have told me to check back with me.
“I'm here to see if there are any companies I am interested in,” said Andrew Wilson of Butler, who recently graduated from Grove City College with a degree in electrical engineering.
He was just beginning his search and hoped to visit several of the larger companies at the fair.
Jenna Brace of Pittsburgh is a freelance civil engineer who visited the career fair looking to join a firm.
Brace talked with several staffing companies that she hopes will help her connect with companies looking for civil engineers.
